I am not the typical comic book geek. Thanks to my husband and the recent crop of comic book movies, I am pretty familiar with the major characters in the Marvel and DC universes, enough to have some favorite characters (Nightcrawler from the X-Men, Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four, and Spiderman). Mainly, I tend to read web comics or comics concerning gaming or fandom in general. Right now, my favorites are: Sluggy Freelance, The Order of the Stick, Nodwick, Full and Frontal Nerdity. Still, my all time favorite comic is not a web comic but one that can be found in the daily newspaper, For Better or For Worse. I grew up with the Pattersons and I still read every strip that Lynn Johnson puts out.
Another favorite is The Adventures of the Brobdingnagian Bards, a comic that is written by one of my best friends, my cousin, Nikki O’Shea Bean and is written about my good friends, the Brobdingnagian Bards. In addition to being a great strip, this comic also has the distinction of featuring little old me, which I thought was pretty nifty. My cousin may have depicted me as a little pushy but she drew me much slimmer than I am in real life, which I thought was a great trade off in the grand scheme of things.

I love movies. My favorite movies of all time are The Story of Us and Moulin Rouge but in general, I enjoy the following genres:

I am still a kid at heart when it comes to movies. I grew up on classics like Charlotte’s Web, The Secret of NIMH, The Last Unicorn and almost anything put out by Walt Disney or Jim Henson. Now-a-days, I still enjoy watching good animated movies like Shrek, The Incredibles, etc. I might bring my nieces or nephew to see the movie but don’t let that fool you. I really wanted to see it myself.

When it comes to my favorite movies, I am such a girly girl. I am a sucker for a good romantic comedy and I love a movie that makes me feel something, even if I end up crying at the end, (which I always seem to do). My favorite movies are Moulin Rouge and The Story of Us but I also love movies like: Sleepless in Seattle, The Princess Bride, Don Juan DeMarco, Under the Tuscan Sun, Beaches, The Notebook, Tristan and Isolde, Meet Joe Black and Shakespeare in Love.

I love musicals, both on stage and on screen. I grew up on movies like Annie, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Grease, My Fair Lady, Singing in the Rain and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I also enjoy many of the more recent movies based on Broadway musicals, like Chicago, Rent, Phantom of the Opera, The Producers and even The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And there have been some incredible musicals movies made that were never intended to be performed on stage. Some of my favorites include: Moulin Rouge, A Mighty Wind and Almost Famous.

I also love stories from another time. Many, but not all, of my favorite period pieces are film versions of classic literature. I love movies based on Shakespearean plays (like Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night’s Dream or Kenneth Branagh’s version of Othello), the works of Oscar Wilde (An Ideal Husband) or Jane Austen, (Pride and Prejudice). Some of my other favorites include: Gosford Park, Rob Roy, Braveheart, and Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves.

As the wife of a Sci-Fi / Comic Book geek, I have become quite a connoisseur of science fiction / fantasy films. As a result, I know the Star Wars movies backwards and forwards and I have developed a fondness for movies like Iron Man, Spiderman, Batman Begins, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and the first two X-Men films (even if I didn’t like their treatment of my favorite X-Man, Nightcrawler). I can even recite Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail almost completely by memory.
Truth be told, even before Rob and I got together, I was a big fan of the fantasy genre, particularly anything based on Arthurian legends or Celtic mythology or that had to do with unicorns. Some of my favorites include: The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Princess Bride.

Rob and I watch a lot of TV. In our defense, it is usually on in the background while I am knitting or he is working on his computer, but regardless we have our shows that we watch obsessively. Some of our favorites (past and present) include: American Idol, Babylon 5, Big Bang Theory, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Eli Stone, Farscape, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, Project Runway, and West Wing.

As I have mentioned before, I cannot stand being bored. One of the things that I enjoy filling up any extra time that I have on my hands is puzzles. I enjoy crossword puzzles (although I am by no means an expert at doing them) and my family has gotten obsessed with Sudoku for some time now and as a form of self defence, I began playing too. But my favorite kind of puzzles, the kind that I have gotten somewhat obsessed with are logic puzzles.
